William Ripley Dorr collection of California railroad club photographs : albums and slides, 1930-1962.

Primarily black and white prints of various excursions by the railroad clubs visiting historic and current lines. The photos are mainly examples of types of cars, from both the era of steam and the more modern diesel period. Also includes historic vehicles of British Columbia, and ephemera such as tickets, programs, and a stock certificate for Lehigh Valley Railroad Company, 1901. The slide collection (box 2, not in the finding aid), includes 42 slides from the 1949 Chicago Railroad Fair, as well as slides from trips to the Grand Canyon, Alaska, Death Valley, Calico, British Columbia, Hoover Dam, Colorado, East coast, the Feather River, Sierra Nevada, southern California, Arizona, etc.

Dorr, a resident of Palos Verdes Estates, was a member of numerous railway clubs in California. He participated in some 28 railroad excursions during the period 1948 to 1968 for which he kept photos or records. Most were in California but some also included Alaska, Chicago, Colorado, Nevada, and Arizona.
